GATE 2020: GATE or the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a common entrance examination conduct by the IITs, GFTIs, NITs and other institutes in a collaboration. These institutes offer technical courses at Postgraduate level. For this year, GATE 2020-21, is being organized by the IIT-Roorkee GATE coaching Provided by THE GATE ACADEMY. The application forms will make available at the IISc website during September, while the notification for the examination and its important dates have announced via official notification. With this year, International GATE examination is conducted in foreign countries like the Bangladesh, Nepal, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.

GATE Application Form 2020:

The application form will be available on the official website from September 1st. The Gate Online Application Processing System(GOAPS) is use to register the candidates for appearing in the examination. Registration at this web address requires the candidate to provide a valid email address, GOAPS password, and mobile number. On successful registration the candidate will communicate, his GOAP enrollment ID. The candidate must then use this ID and his personal GOAPS password to login at the application form portal, fill appropriate details and upload relevant documents. The image files to be readied when applying for GATE 2020 include candidate signature, candidate thumb impression, scanned images of degree certificate or marks sheet for the latest semester examination.

The candidate must also decide the mode by which he/she wants to pay the fee before applying at the web portal. The fee for the women candidates and the category candidates is Rs 750, for the Unreserved category, it is Rs 1500. The fee can be paid via net banking or e-challan.

Eligibility Criteria – GATE 2020:

GATE entrance is for direct admission at postgraduate level course of Engineering. It conduct by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and other seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) jointly. The candidates appearing for the GATE 2020 exam must fulfill the eligibility criteria before appearing for the exam, the details of the eligibility criteria has been mentioned below:

  • Candidates must have Bachelor Degree in Science / BSc. Research from recognized University.
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor Degree i.e. B.E./B.Pharm/ B.Tech/ B.Arch from a recognized University.
  • Candidate should have bachelor’s degree under 10+2+4 systems or any such equivalent. Candidate who have completed their Graduation under 10+2+3 system are ineligible for GATE.
  • The applicants having Master’s degree in any branch of Science/ Statistics/ Mathematics / Computer applications or equivalent-M.Sc/ MCA/M.A.
  • The applicants appearing in the final year of qualifying exam can also apply for exam provided they have to submit the certificate from the Principal of University or College.
  • Diploma Holders are not eligible for the examination.
  • The candidates, who have passed the qualifying examination, have to submit their certificate or degree certificate or provisional certificate.

GATE 2020 – Exam Pattern:

The examination pattern tests the candidates’ knowledge in English, General Aptitude and discipline oriented subjects. The combined marks allotted to the subject questions is 85, while the General aptitude section(including English) carries 15 marks. The time allotted is 3 hours, maximum marks being 100. The subjects section does divide into subsections. For each discipline, the number of subsections and the total number of questions in the subsections may vary. It is advised that the candidate refers to the syllabus of appropriate discipline to find the subsections and the syllabi covered subsequently. For example, the syllabus for the Electronics and Communication Engineering discipline is divide into 8 sub-sections.

How to Get Good Score in GATE 2020 Entrance Exam: The Gate examination is conducted at the national level to select meritorious candidates for admission into Postgraduate programmes in various Engineering disciplines across the country. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering tests the subject grasp and the aptitude strength in a candidate. Earlier, this examination was conducted offline, recently the pattern has changed. The online test will have MCQ and numerical questions which require the candidate to work out and answer it for one and two marks.

Practice papers for GATE 2020 Entrance Exam:

To get a good score in the examination, one has to practice many test papers and increase their speed of answering the questions. A total of 65 questions are awarded 100 marks, out of which 55 questions are awarded 85 marks and the remaining 10 questions are awarded 15 marks. The pattern of the paper covers 13% of the questions from the Mathematics, 15% of the General Aptitude, and 72% of the core subjects. With this information, a candidate can plan the study schedule smartly.

Few Useful Tips That Help Score Better in GATE 2020:

Focusing on mathematics and laying strong foundations in aptitude tests is a good way to secure about 30% of the marks. One can practice online aptitude tests every day, besides studying and practising the planned subjects in their study schedule.

It is important to cover all the subjects, one cannot expect to lose marks by skipping any tough subject. A person with an aim to get a good Gate score must start by tackling the tough subjects by listening to online lectures delivered by experts in the field, participate in doubt clearing sessions and spare more time for study. It is good to schedule the tough subjects in conjunction with easier ones.

For the Gate 2017, the official notification for application is expected during the month of August this year. Plan the study of subjects intelligently. With this year, the personal calculator is barred from examination hall. Hence, it is important that the candidate practices the use of virtual calculator provided online to get accustomed to it. This calculator is available from the official Gate website which can be utilised in mock tests.

Lastly, it is important to finish the study of all the subjects, before two months from the actual date of examination. The last two months must be spared in mock tests with use of the Gate-provided virtual calculator. This kind of preparation increases the confidence level in a candidate and makes him/her sure of obtaining a good score in Gate.

The recruitment of graduate engineers through GATE to PSU started in the year 2012 by some of them and gradually spread through some of the most prominent PSU at present like BHEL, GAIL, SAIL, BSNL, DMRC, ONGC, BPCL, HPCL, DRDO, NHAI, IOCL, RITES and NHPC. Actually, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) tests your technical skills as well as your analytical and logical skills. IIT Guwahati is the conducting authority for GATE 2020 examination. GATE scores are valid for three years for admission to M.Tech courses but not for recruitment purposes to PSU.
